LESSON ONE - History of the videogames industry




  • Intro unit and Learning Objectives
  • Set up UNIT 60 blogs
  • SCREENING: Video Games The Movie (1h 45min) - hard copy on teacher machines
  • VIEWING TASK: Make a note of as many statistics as you can from the documentary and write these up for homework.
  • BLOG TASK: "What are your earliest experiences of playing video games? How has your relationship with games changed since then?" 
  • PLAY TASK: Visit the Internet Arcade hosted on the Internet Archive site and try playing some old school arcade games that you may have heard of or seen on the documentary. What is the experience of playing these games like? How do they compare to the kinds of video game you are used to playing now?

LESSON TWO - Bartle's Taxonomy










  • PHOTOSHOP TASK: Find images of as many of the different computers, consoles, phones, tablets and other devices that you have played video games on over the years. In Photoshop put them together into a timeline that your history with gaming technology. What does this say about you and your relationship with videogames?





    • TASK - Watch the extra credit video and what kind of Gamer would you say you are? Then take the Bartle Gamer Psychology Test and see what result you get? In your own words explain the four types and to what extent you identify with your result. You can screen shot the results and then reflect on them on your blog. Think of an example or two of your gaming experience that might illustrate the findings.
